本教材由深圳职业技术学院、上海第二工业大学、北京联合大学、华东师范大学职业技术学院等四大高职名校联合打造而成，自2000年出版至今，历经十年市场考验、两次修订、其结构与内容日臻科学、成熟和完善，曾先后被评为普通高等教育“十五”和“十一五”国家级规划教材.
     本次修订以《高等职业教育英语课程教学要求》为指导，力求满足职业教育改革新形势下公共英语基础阶段的教学需要。修订后的《新世纪高职英语》主要有以下特点：
★注重语言基础训练和语言应用能力的培养，突出实用性和职业性特征；
★坚持以学生为本，注重学习方法的培养和学生自主学习，注重课堂互动；
★兼顾学生在校学习以及就业、升学的需要，注意培养学生正确的思想情感；
★各单元听、说、读、写内容有机统一，选材精当、图文并茂、寓教于乐。
